In Memoriam: Palmer

PalmerOur thoughts are with Kathleen Wilsbach, our Chapter Manager, today after she lost her beloved rabbit, Palmer. His form from the Baltimore Humane Society from 10/31/97 says he was 2 years old. That would have made him just a couple of months shy of 16 years old.

He shared his life first with Rowan and Jasmine and later as part of a fivesome – Sona, Klaus, Jackson, and Belle. Most recently, he was bonded with Agatha and Lance. Lance died in the summer of 2009 but Palmer was too frail at that point to go through another bonding. He has been living next to current foster rabbit Dominique. She was often laying next to him so he did still have some rabbit company.

He was an ex-classroom rabbit who was turned into the shelter by the teacher. Understandably after his early experience, he never really liked being touched by humans. Kathleen had a lot of great help caring for Palmer over the all these years from Dr Gold and the staff at Chadwell Animal Hospital. And the past couple of years also from Tom Ingegno who provided him with acupuncture and my neighbor Vonnie Gowe who came in during the day while Kathleen was at work to check on him. Her next door neighbors, Linda and Rollin, and volunteers, Rachel, Jen and Anthony, also helped watch over him from time to time when Kathleen couldn’t. She is so grateful for all the help to care for her little old chocolate man.

“I feel very privileged to have shared my life with him as long as I did. He was a very special rabbit.” Kathleen

Even after all of those years, it never feels like enough time with our animal companions. Here are some more pictures of Palmer with his various rabbit friends over the years.
